I think I will hold back on releasing Durkarian the Damned for a bit. It is pretty brutish and is going to take me a while to smooth it out.
So instead I will post this short, actually this is more of a rough of an idea I never finished.
Basically, I penned this in April of 1997. I was active in the Disney Gargoyles fandom on IRC, and a devoted viewer.
Many people were writing fan-fic for the gargs stuff. I just felt wierd about writing something composed in someone elses story arc.
That and I wanted something darker and grittier, more dark fantasy like Elric or Duran Hawkmoon from Micheal Moorcock's stories.
I am and always have been a sucker for the story plot of the fall from grace, and redemption in the end. I hopeless romantic I know.
The premise for this was based more on much darker world than Disney's gargoyles would support, even for fan fic.
I liked the garg idea as in creature of flight, but not the rest. So I created my own and that was to be my world with its own arc.
I penned this while working at Sprint, doing tech support in between calls.
In fact, I had most of the story time line in my head, and had deveopled many of the characters that I wanted to introduce as well as having done illustrations of them or at least the best of my drawing abilities would permit.
Any one I was hanging with at that time would remember the sketches and CG I did of "DarkChylde" and of MorningSong", as well as some of the of characters.
Anyone who attended the gargs con in LA in 2001 would have gotten the chance to see me bring Morningsong to reality with the costume I did for the costume ball they have at the con.
It was a nice costume, even won best of show. The pity was the politics of the time cheated me of getting any recognition from those there, other than the few who knew me for the work I had put into the costume.
That was one of the main reasons why I quit the fandom and never finished this story line. I saw too much of the politics that was going on behind the scenes and it just soured me to the whole thing.
Other reasons are, while I had the time line for main events in my head, it was the fleshing out all the actions between events and sub plots that stymied me. As well as the fact is I hate the physical process of writing. Love brainstorming the ideas, hate putting pencil to paper or fingers to kb. So much of what I have has not been seen by anyone becasue of this.
Other concerns was if I ever did decide to pursue the story line I was not sure if I was in violation of anyone's copy rights. mind you I had creatures similar to gars but not anything like Disneys so I was not sure how far I may have gone, as well as my other fear of that I did not know how much of my writing was influenced by my readings of JRR Tolkien, Micheal Moorcock, Terry Brooks, and Piers Anthony. there are a lot of similarities and I don't want to create something that is merely a cheap hack of a greater work.
Which is why only the Prologue and this opening chapter are all that exist.
I tried to set the tone with the prologue, and with the opening chapter give some background on my anti-heroine.
anyways enough yap from me :)
Here are the Peices ( the opening chapter could still be fleshed out o more with more detail, but it still gives me a good place to start)
enjoy.
